The Guardian reviewed my book yesterday.
In the morning, I read an interview by Iain Banks in The Word. He said that authors should never read reviews of their work or check their ranking on Amazon. That sounded like excellent advice to me because I wasn't expecting to get any reviews for my book and I was still recovering from being ranked 300,000-and-something the week after it was released.
Then I got a text from my agent, Judith, telling me there was an excellent review in The Guardian. I legged-it to the newsagents, of course. And, I've just visited Amazon to see that they've run out of copies of the book and my ranking has jumped to 30,000-and-something.
I can't help but be encouraged.

Hey man, why haven't you done that 'search inside' thing on Amazon? It's a cool feature.
